Senior spikers fade in Dryden

The Muskie senior girls’ volleyball team competed at the Santa Claus Classic tournament in Dryden over the weekend, finishing round-robin play in third place with a 5-5 record.
The black-and-gold won the first set against Dryden’s junior team 25-12 before losing the second 25-18. Then they split against St. Thomas Aquinas (Kenora), winning the first set 25-18 but losing the second 25-20.
Fort High was swept by the Westgate Tigers by scores of 26-24 and 25-18 before splitting with the Churchill Trojans, losing the first set 25-11 but rebounding to salvage the second one 25-22.
The Muskies then concluded round-robin play with a sweep of the Red Lake Rams by scores of 25-21 and 25-23.
Fort High began playoff action against the Sioux Lookout Warriors and defeated them in two sets (25-22 and 25-13).
The Muskies then moved on to face the Hammarskjold Vikings in the semi-finals and struggled offensively in the first set, losing 13-25.
The black-and-gold tightened up in the second set and battled point by point until the end before losing 22-25 and being eliminated from further playoff contention.
