Second Street work on track

Water and sanitary main installations are completed at the Victoria Avenue intersection.
While giving an update on the Second Street East reconstruction job, Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob said at Monday evening’s council meeting that all water mains there have been pressure tested and chlorinated and are ready to be reinstated.
Water and sanitary mains respective service installation are now progressing westwardly.
While weather might play a role in the completion date, Rob said ground conditions have been good and they are still on track to be finished for the middle of October.
Meanwhile, the town and Fort Frances Power Corp. will be replacing traffic signal controllers at the intersections of Second Street and Portage Avenue, Scott Street and Mowatt Avenue, and Scott Street and Victoria Avenue from Aug. 20-23.
“While this work is being completed there may be some short duration shutdowns of the traffic signals with some temporary four way stop signs being erected through these times,” Rob noted.
Also during Monday night’s meeting, Coun. John McTaggart commented on the quality of care at the Shevlin wood yard.
“It looks terrific, kudos to the crew for the good work that’s been done with it. It looks really good,” he remarked.
