Second refugee family arriving here soon

Only about a month after the arrival of an Iraqi refugee family to Fort Frances, a second one is due here Dec. 21.
The local “Families for Families” committee has found a place for the family–consisting of Rami Canoon, his wife, Fivyan Shamoon, and their two daughters, Fbaana, six, and Oryana, two–to stay but will start preparing for their arrival next week.
As such, the committee is asking for some help moving the household items and furnishings to the apartment it has arranged for them.
Committee member Kathy Mueller said anyone interested is urged to meet up next Tuesday (Dec. 12) at 10 a.m. at the storage unit at Crozier Warehouse.
If anybody has a truck or some muscle that they can lend, that would be appreciated, she noted.
Those on hand will remove from storage the donated items and furnishings for the new family and transport them to the apartment in the central part of town.
Mueller believes they have most of what they’ll need to get the new family all set up. But since it’s been a while since the committee has been at the storage locker, it won’t know for sure until next Tuesday.
“I think we have most of the furniture,” she noted, adding clothing will have to wait until the family gets here and their sizes are known.

Mueller said the family is scheduled to arrive in Thunder Bay on Dec. 20, but it’s very likely they’ll stay there overnight before being driven to Fort Frances the following day.
She added the Al-Zeebaree family is excited for the Canoon family to join them.
Rami is the brother of Julia Al-Zeebaree, the mother of that first family.
