Police are continuing to search for an overdue boater on Rainy Lake.
John Cochrane, 43, of Mitaanjigaming First Nation (Stanjikoming), left the community by boat Wednesday around 1:30 p.m. to harvest fire wood from an area across Stanjikoming Bay on Rainy Lake.
He was operating an 18-foot aluminum Lund with a 25 h.p. Mariner tiller motor.
When he failed to return home by yesterday, a family member alerted the Treaty #3 Police Service of the situation around noon.
Three police marine vessels began to patrol for the missing man. Emergency Response Teams from both the OPP and Treaty #3 Police Service also responded, with the assistance of a Ministry of Natural Resources helicopter.
Around 9 p.m., officers located the Lund overturned in the area of Egg Island in Stanjikoming Bay.
ERT members and marine officers from both agencies are working with community members to continue the search today.
