The weather was perfect Saturday for the International Early Iron Car Club and local Business Improvement Association’s annual “Scott Street Show ’n Shine.”
“There was a very good turnout, very well-attended,” BIA co-ordinator Patti Anderson noted yesterday. “The weather was awesome.
“We sold a gazillion hamburgers,” she added, referring to a barbecue put on by Howarth’s Home Centre for the Fort Frances Museum renovations.
Anderson said more than 70 cars from both sides of the border were out on Scott Street for the “show ’n shine.”
The numbers would have been even higher but a group of auto enthusiasts from Wisconsin that were supposed to be there couldn’t make it due to the weather.
The classic cars were displayed from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. on the 200 and 300 blocks of Scott Street, which were blocked off so people could roam the street and look at all the antique cars and souped-up street rods.
The event also featured a fundraiser garage sale inside the museum, free balloons and AWANA Grand Prix racing in front of the museum, and some sidewalk sales by downtown businesses.
“I didn’t get a lot of feedback from the merchants, but those that I did talk to said it was busy downtown,” noted Anderson.

Meanwhile, Anderson said the public should keep their eyes open for a “mystery mural” to appear soon in the downtown area.
“It will show up soon. But we want to keep people wondering where and when, keep people on their toes,” she remarked. “We want to give them something to look at downtown.”
Anderson wouldn’t say much else about the mural, except that it will be a small one—something of a precursor to a larger mural project the BIA is looking at for next summer.
“Our goal for this year was to have more beautification downtown. Little bits and pieces here and there will help,” she remarked.
In related beautification news, Anderson said flower baskets soon will be hanging from the lamp posts in the 100-300 blocks of Scott Street.
Finally, Anderson said she wants to see this year’s “Mall Day,” slated for Thursday, June 29, to bigger and better than ever. For one thing, she’d like to have a motorcycle show ’n shine during it.
As such, Anderson is encouraging any motorcycle clubs or individual riders to contact her if they’re interested in participating.
She also is encouraging any service clubs or other groups that want to put on or sponsor an event in conjunction with “Mall Day” to contact her. One such idea is a children’s sidewalk chalk-drawing contest.
