Robert Moore School is celebrating its centennial graduation this Wednesday and the public is invited to attend.
Grade 8 teacher Sonja Bodnarchuk said former students and staff may be interested in checking out the gym to see the timeline they’ve created around it.
“If people want to come and view the gym on that Wednesday during the day, or come to the grad, they are welcome to,” Bodnarchuk noted.
She added she finds it very exciting that there have been 100 classes that have graduated from Robert Moore School.
“The original Robert Moore School opened [on] Oct. 23, 1914, with the first class graduating in 1915,” said Bodnarchuk.
And despite the fact the original building has been demolished, Bodnarchuk stressed it is still Robert Moore School.
She spent much time over the last few weeks researching the history of the school.
“When the original building opened up, the main floor was elementary and the upper level was the high school, which I didn’t know,” Bodnarchuk noted.
Through the timeline she’s created, Bodnarchuk has documented with photos the changes the original building went through over the years.
“Then I have pictures of it being demolished, the new school, and some class pictures from different years,” she added.
Bodnarchuk is missing some years but has photos from the early 1920s and ’30s, and then from the ’60s through to the current years.
“I’m think people would find it interesting to check out, especially old principals or staff members,” she reasoned.
The graduation ceremony gets underway at 6:30 p.m.
But anyone interested in viewing the timeline can stop by the school anytime on Wednesday.
