The Northwest Catholic District School Board will meet tonight to discuss, among other things, policy considerations and committee reports.
The Ministry of Education has developed a program called “Shared Solutions,” which focuses on preventing and resolving conflicts within programs and services that are catered towards children with special needs.
The program’s aim is to focus and reflect on positive solutions by using shared communication strategies.
New system initiatives also are on the agenda tonight, including greater recognition of students and staff.
The board wants to push towards recognizing the top Grade 8 students at graduation, as well as Catholic high school students who show values that are congruent with Catholic teachings.
The board is looking at issuing press releases to local media to ensure their students are recognized.
Education Director Mary-Catherine Kelly also wants recognition of teachers and support staff for years of service, beginning with five years of service and then in increments of five.
Only those with 25 and 30 years of service currently are recognized.
Tonight’s meeting begins at 6:30 p.m. at the board office next to St. Francis School.
