School board launches new information system

The Rainy River District School Board recently launched www.schoolhouse.rrdsb.com
Schoolhouse is a web-based program designed to deliver student information to parents that can be accessed at the parents’ convenience through their personal computer.
The programming of the Schoolhouse website was developed internally and is unique to the Rainy River District School Board.
Website developers, Chris and Sherree Denby, worked out a method to use a parent’s e-mail address to log-in to the system. Information is encrypted between the parent and the computer server to ensure security and privacy.
Parents must register their e-mail address with the school, and are able to view information that is specific to their own child.
“We’re very excited about this program as it provides another opportunity for our schools to enhance positive home-school communication,” noted Superintendent of Education Heather Campbell.
Through the Schoolhouse website, parents can ensure demographic and emergency contact information is listed accurately for their child.
As well, parents will have access to their child’s attendance records and news items for the school the student attends.
At the secondary student level, parents can view the student’s progress toward graduation through a credit counselling summary. At the elementary level, parents can view report card marks.
Additional features also are being considered for future development of the Schoolhouse website.
