School board eyeing goals

The Rainy River District School Board will look to approve the Strategic Plan Goals for 2012-13 through 2016-17 at tonight’s regular meeting at the Education Centre here.
Back in June, the board approved a revised mission statement and crafted a new vision statement. The this past fall, through another strategic planning session with facilitator Marilyn Gouthro, they identified goals within each pillar.
The pillars are Purposeful Learning, Well-Being of Students and Staff, Capacity Building, and Engagement of our Students and Parents.
Some of the goals—among others—are that:
•the strengths and needs of the board’s earliest learners are identified to ensure the foundation for their success;
•the learning and working environments are safe and inclusive;
•the staff reflects the diversity of our community; and
•positive outreach to parents as essential partners in their children’s education enhances the success of students.
“At the centre of everything we do [is] our students,” Director of Education Heather Campbell stressed.
“Our mission, vision, and commitment statements provide a strong foundation that guides our daily actions and decisions.
“In addition to these statements, we are also guided by a strategic plan that identifies key goals for the school district,” Campbell added.
“Through the consultative process, the board has determined its current and future priorities—a road map for our continued success in the Rainy River District School Board,” she remarked.
Also at tonight’s meeting, which gets underway at 7 p.m., the board will:
•present the monthly “Recognition of Excellence” to Sturgeon Creek School for its engagement in the arts;
•hear a presentation regarding mental health and wellness;
•look at approving three policies; and
•receive the notice of intent to amend the board’s procedural bylaw.
