The Rainy River District School Board will be looking to approve its 2009/10 budget at its monthly meeting tonight at 7 p.m. at Robert Moore School.
The board is projecting a budget of $42,899,608, which includes a $424,000 withdrawal from classroom reserves and another $50,000 from working funds.
Trustees also will be looking at a resolution to approve the estimated budget of $13,582,007 for the Robert Moore/Huffman consolidation capital project, pending Ministry of Education approval.
As put forward by the policy committee, the board will look at approving the recently-updated policies, 2.10 Announcements/Advertisements in Schools and 2.13 School Councils.
The board also will be looking to approve the following policies for stakeholder consultation:
•1.23 Student Trustee;
•2.12 Access to Board Facilities (formerly Authorization of Agents of the Rainy River District School Board as Occupiers Under the Trespass to Property Act, 1990);
•2.40 Definition of School Day;
•5.25 Environmental Education; and
•8.05 Advocacy
Recent activities will be highlighted to the board at tonight’s meeting, including the 2009 Rainy River District Speech Contest and Young Women’s Conference.
Aboriginal education leader Brent Tookenay also will be highlighting various aboriginal initiatives that took place during the 2008/09 school year.
Also tonight, Plant Operations and Maintenance manager Raymond Roy is slated to present the board with the list of maintenance projects slated for schools and board facilities over the summer months.
As well, two recognitions of excellence will be presented at the meeting, including one to recognize volunteers and bus drivers.
The other is going to Mine Centre School for its work throughout the year to promote June’s theme of “responsibility” for the board’s Character in Action program.
