‘Sample’ day on tap at market

Press Release

This past Saturday was another sunny day for the Clover Valley Farmers’ Market.
Once again, bedding plants, herbs, and hanging baskets were for sale from local growers.
The market also is starting to provide the first fresh local produce of the season. Mark Gerber supplied beautiful spinach and radishes while Jacob Gerber consigned five- and 10-pound bags of red potatoes.
The Loweys were selling leaf lettuce grown by Eric Swinkels. Eberly’s, meanwhile, had leaf lettuce and radishes, as well as a diverse variety of bedding plants!
Look for all these items—and more—on upcoming market weekends.
This coming Saturday (June 5), the farmers’ market is having a “Sample” day to showcase the great food items which are made and marketed in our very own district.
Vendors will be sampling their products for visitors to taste.
Try some of the baking from Nighswanders’ Bakery, who make the drive from Barwick every Saturday. Or visit the booth of Iris Gogosha, who lives in Fort Frances (cannot get much closer to home than that!)
Be sure to visit the Clover Valley consignment area to try a variety of products made across the district. Sample local meat products, like smoked elk from the Rainy River Elk Company and beef from Cornell Farms.
Both businesses provide their delicious goods grown on their farms in La Vallee.
The consignment booth also will be sampling several products from the Thunder Bay area. Try some award-winning Thunder Oak Gouda Cheese, which comes in many flavours, everything from mild to Fenugreek and Jalapeno.
Also for sampling will be Chino’s Spaghetti Sauce that is prepared by Chef Don Sacino of Thunder Bay.
Or try the scandalously-delicious fudge made by Chocolate Cow, just south of Thunder Bay. It is peanut- and tree-nut free!
While you’re at the market, ask the vendors about other local products which are not being sampled. Look for Dryden’s award-winning Buster’s Blueberry barbecue sauce, local wild rice, and flour ground by Jeff Burke who owns Brule Creek Farms in Thunder Bay.
The market, open Saturdays from 9 a.m.-1 p.m., is located on McIrvine Road just north of Canadian Tire.
