While there has been a delay in planned renovations at the local Canada Safeway store, the changes will go ahead and are expected to be completed in December.
“Plans haven’t changed for that store. They are proceeding,” said John Graham, manager of public affairs for Canada Safeway.
“However, they were delayed in the contract awarding process so the timeline has been pushed back.”
In August, the company announced plans to adopt the chain’s “Lifestyle” format at the store here, which is designed to better serve singles, seniors, and people seeking healthier food choices.
The format includes a boutique style of experience in each department.
The local store also will feature an expanded selection of organics in the produce section and more “meals to go” for quick meal preparation.
As well, it will sport a new home decor centre, hardwood flooring, and new lighting, in addition to a full-service Starbucks coffee shop with in-store seating.
Construction originally was scheduled to begin in September. Graham noted the bulk of the renovations will take place at night to minimize any shopping interruption.
The store is scheduled to have a grand re-opening Nov. 22, but the renovations will not be complete until December.
“It’ll be sometime in December with a time to be confirmed yet. We’re targeting mid-December to have all the ‘Lifestyle’ project completed, including the opening of the Starbucks,” Graham said.
