Safeway to announce new charity Monday

On the heels of raising $55,123.53 for the “Community Chest” this past year, local Canada Safeway employees are poised to adopt another worthy cause.
“We’re in the process of voting right now,” assistant manager Cory Delbridge said. “The employees have until the end of the weekend to cast their votes.
“So we should have an announcement to make Monday,” he added.
Each store employee has been given a ballot. They have 10 charity suggestions to chose from, with background information for each available for reference.
The deadline for the public to offer suggestions for the new charity was Nov. 29. Any local non-profit organization, including service clubs and charities, were able to recommend themselves.
Delbridge has said the public can expect to see fundraising start very shortly after the charity is chosen, adding there’s a “distinct possibility” the store will start selling tickets before Christmas for a raffle where the top prize will be $100 a week in groceries for a year.
The local store has a track record of raising more money for its selected charity with each passing year—and even a reputation as the top fundraiser among Safeway stores in western Canada.
