Safeway looking to improve gas station traffic

Town council is expected to pass a bylaw at Monday night’s regular meeting that will allow Canada Safeway here to make an entrance on the east side of its parking lot beside the gas station.
Safeway made the request to improve traffic flow in and out of the gas station.
Council also is expected to pass a bylaw Monday night authorizing an agreement with Green’s Furniture to allow a building to encroach onto town property.
The bylaw is to be passed because of the discovery that part of a building goes 0.16 metres onto a lane owned by the town.
The encroachment was discovered during a recent survey. The business will pay $1 as part of an agreement to allow the building to remain on town property.
Council also will receive a request from the Rainy River Future Development Corp. for support of a draft letter from local Internet network architect/analyst Jerry Korman over Bell Canada’s rate increase proposal.
Korman’s letter suggests Bell Canada’s increase be refused because the company has failed to provide innovation or leading-edge technology in Rainy River District.
Council also will receive a financial request from the Canadian Red Cross for help in the aftermath of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks in the United States.
