Town council will receive a financial request from Safe Communities Rainy River District for $.50 per capita funding for its 2010-11 programs at tonight’s council meeting.
This rate is the same the group asked for—and received—last year.
This money would be used to “help our communities become safer to live, learn, work, and play,” Safe Communities chair Peggy Loyie wrote in a letter to council.
“The group looks forward to the challenges of our future continuation of existing programs, and the implementation of new and exciting programs for the district,” she noted.
In addition to the programs listed in its annual report, Loyie said the group always is looking for new funding opportunities that arise in hopes that one of their community partners will be able to access it and make a successful program for the district.
“We strongly feel acquiring extra dollars for our community effort provides additional resources, programs, and sustainability to our safety efforts,” she added.
The group’s website—www.safetycoalition.ca—continues to market programs it is involved in, as well as partners and links to various organizations throughout the region which provide safety-related activities and promotion.
The public portion of tonight’s meeting is scheduled to start at 5:55 p.m., with the committee of the whole to meet in-camera first at 5:30.
Items on the in-camera agenda include a potential property sale and appointments to the Museum and Cultural Centre Advisory Committee.
Other items on the regular agenda include:
•a notice of change in council meeting dates for 2011;
•a post-election report on accessibility measures;
•a report regarding a financial request from Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame re: annual membership and fundraising campaign;
•a report regarding a membership request from the Northwestern Ontario Tourism Association;
•a report regarding an interim tax levy for 2011;
•preliminary 2011 operating and capital budgets;
•a report on weddings at Sunny Cove Camp;
•a report on winter snow clearing and removal;
•a report on 2011 conferences mayor and council may attend;
•a bylaw to provide an interim tax levy for 2011; and
•a resolution from the Town of Rainy River re: additional support staff at the Riverview Apartments in Rainy River.
