Rusty Myers gets new wings

It’s still on the assembly line in Wichita, Kan. but Rusty Myers Flying Service Ltd. here has added a $2-million plane to its fleet.
The company, which caters to tourists and resort owners who want to reach remote cabins or hunting and fishing spots, has purchased its first turbine engine plane.
“It’s just being built, we’ll probably get it the first part of June,” owner Angie Korzinski noted Tuesday.
The Caravan Cessna 280 will seat nine people and travel at higher speeds–about 170 mph compared to the average speed of 130 mph by their other planes.
“We just wanted to upgrade and it’s faster,” said Korzinski.
The company’s pilots and mechanics also will have to adjust when the new plane arrives. “It’s a big step with different components and things than our engines,” Korzinski noted.
Rusty Myers currently has five eight-passenger, dual-engine Beechcraft and two single-engine Beavers. With the purchase of the new Cessna, two of the Beechcraft will be sold.
Although it’s early, Korzinski hinted the plane may be a sign of the future for Rusty Myers.
“It’s hard to say, it’s hard to say . . . we’ll see how it goes with this one but it looks like the way to go. With the new technology, it’s cheaper,” she remarked.
