After about 14 years at its current location on the corner of Scott Street and Victoria Avenue, the Rainy River Future Development Corp. is moving down the street.
Starting Monday, the RRFDC will operate out of 608 Scott St., the site of the former Northland Basics store (between North Air Services and Einar’s Foods).
“We‘re physically doing the move tomorrow [Friday], so we’ll be closed,” office services manager Cindy Milette said Thursday morning.
“On Monday, we will be open. Everything will be the same, even though it’ll still be a little crazy,” she laughed.
Milette said the main reason for relocating was to have an office on the ground floor. Its current location is in the upper part of the red brick building at 400 Scott St.
“For years we talked about moving and then this opportunity came up,” she remarked.
“Plus, it’s bigger. We’re bursting at the seams here,” she noted. “There’s more space for parking and in the front part of the new place, there will be a board room/training room.”
The parking area for the RRFDC’s new location will be on the west side of building, as is the entrance. Milette noted the signage should be up later this spring, at which time a grand re-opening will be held.
Anyone who needs to reach the RRFDC tomorrow can call 275-8743. The phone number will continue to be 274-3276 at the new location.
Meanwhile, the Valley Adult Learning Association will be the RRFDC’s upstairs neighbour at 608 Scott St.
The organization moved in there last month, VALA co-ordinator Barb Duguay noted this morning.
“Our number-one reason [for moving] was because we were growing,” said Duguay.
“We needed to establish an identity and be ‘up front,’” she noted, referring to the fact VALA previously was renting space from NCDS Career Works at 304 Scott St. and was somewhat “tucked away” in that building.
While the upstairs location at 608 Scott St. is not wheelchair accessible, Duguay noted VALA’s services can be rendered to clients at alternate sites, including their own homes.
An open house, with refreshments, will be held at its new location Monday, March 31 from noon-4:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend.
