‘Royal Tea Party’ for kids planned

The Fort Frances Library Technology Centre is hosting a “Royal Tea Party” for princes and princesses aged four and up next Wednesday (Aug. 7).
It will be held at 11 a.m. in the children’s department.
But with only 15 spots available, you must pre-register your child by calling 274-9879 or dropping by the library in person.
Program director Andrea Avis said the library has held tea parties before, such as one with an “Alice in Wonderland” theme.
“We thought having a new royal baby, with baby Prince George, it kind of led us to the ‘Royal Tea Party,’” she explained.
“We also have extremely beautiful prom dresses that our girls are quite anxious to wear and host a tea party,” added Avis.
“And we encouraging princes and princesses to dress up for the tea party.”
Avis said there will be fancy china and sugar cookies, and that library staff definitely is looking forward to it.
Meanwhile, the library also is preparing for an open mic night on Wednesday, Aug. 14 at 7 p.m.
The theme is “Summer Farewell,” and it’s open to performers aged 21 and under, so secondary and post-secondary students alike can take the stage.
“We have a great prize—Bearskin Airlines has donated a round-trip flight for two to Winnipeg,” noted Avis.
“Everybody gets to have their name in for the draw—everybody who attends or performs to make it a fair playing field because I really feel the audience is as important as the performer,” she reasoned.
Some specialty teas and coffees will be available, and those 17 and under also can enter their name in the library’s teen draw for an iPad.
There also will be other prizes.
Performers are asked to pre-register so organizers can plan out the agenda for the evening.
