The view driving west of town has become a little more eye-pleasing thanks to the Fort Frances Rotary Club.
The club recently paid to have the roadside from Taylor International Trucking to the railway crossing at Crozier mowed and trimmed.
“We wanted to make the approach to town more presentable,” Rotary member Bill Badiuk explained why the service group opted to do this.
“We hired Ken Munn to do the job and he was really up to the task. It worked out great,” he added.
“It was a six-hour job,” noted Munn.
Munn mowed both sides of the highway with a tractor, and trimmed around all the signs, trees, and posts by the roadside.
“I didn’t realize there was that many trees and signs out there, though,” laughed Munn.
“It’s good to see a private club take over [beautifying the roadside],” he added, admitting he wished it didn’t have to be that way.
The club has contributed to similar projects in the past, and the cleaning up of the highway is just another example of the club’s efforts towards making the town an attractive place to live in and visit.
Badiuk felt the most impressive thing the club could do is set an example, and hoped others will be moved to make similar efforts, such as keeping the highway grass trimmed, in the future.
“It all adds up to the betterment of the community,” he enthused.
