Scotsmen from across the district will wear their kilts and raise their glasses to Scotland’s most celebrated poet, Robbie Burns, on Saturday night at La Place Rendez-Vous.
Ticket sales for the annual Robbie Burns supper have been as brisk as the winter wind on a Scot’s bare legs. Dinner chairman Dr. Bruce Lidkea said more than 100 tickets already have been sold.
Tickets, which cost $35 each, will be available until Friday night at Lakeland Personnel and Drs. Lidkea, Elliott, Lidkea Optometrists.
The supper is open to both men and women.
Lidkea, also the pipe major for the Fort Frances Highlanders, said the entertainment is wonderful this year. Several members of Winnipeg’s Khartum and Drums will play, as will a quartet of musicians from International Falls and Minneapolis headed by Jessie Laurion.
Former Cape Breton siblings Danette MacDonald and Wayne McIntyre also will perform.
Carol Mackintosh will deliver the Burn’s address while Jimmy Little from Winnipeg will deliver the address to the haggis.
Cocktail hour begins at 6 p.m., followed by a full-course meal and entertainment. Extra haggis is available this year so no one will walk away hungry.
The first Robbie Burns supper was held in 1815, and is celebrated around the world every year.
