Road construction season in Fort Frances is getting underway.
Bay City Contractors will be reconstructing Second Street East from Mowat Avenue to Portage, as well as Nelson Street from the Mosher Avenue intersection to 100 metres westward, this summer.
A pre-construction meeting for property owners on both streets will be held Monday at 6 p.m. at the Civic Centre.
Both jobs will be complete reconstructions, noted Operations and Facilities manager Travis Rob.
This means they will include tearing up the roads, replacing sewer, water, and storm sewer infrastructure, and then rebuilding the roads, gutters, and sidewalks.
Rob said he had not received a finalized work schedule as of this morning, so he doesn’t know if Bay City will be doing Nelson Street first and then Second Street, or vice-versa.
However, it’s likely the contractor will begin to mobilize at one or both sites starting next week.
Pioneer Construction, meanwhile, is scheduled to be here next Wednesday to put the finishing touches to the
Colonization Road East project done mainly by Makkinga Contracting and Equipment Rentals last year.
Pioneer first will be paving the bike path along the La Verendrye Parkway (from Scott Street to Elizabeth Street), as well as the island at the intersection of Scott Street and Colonization Road East.
Then they’ll be putting down the second lift of asphalt on the roadway there.
“We’re not anticipating any closures,” noted Rob, adding flagmen will direct traffic through while they’re paving.
However, parking on the street will be prohibited during the paving work, which is expected to take about a week to complete.
