Road work continues

Staff

Continuing with Phase II of the so-called biomass roads project, Bay City Contracting began work at the intersection of First Street East and Portage Avenue at noon today.
As a result, First Street East will be closed to through traffic from Victoria Avenue to Mowat Avenue while Portage Avenue will be closed to through traffic from Second Street East to Scott Street.
Signage will be installed to re-route traffic onto Second Street East or Third Street East.
The work is scheduled to take 15 days.
In related news, the intersection of Sixth Street and Portage Avenue is scheduled to be re-opened sometime tomorrow (July 23).
But Portage Avenue between Fifth Street and Sixth Street will remain closed to through traffic in order that granular materials can be placed so the concrete curb and gutter can be installed in the near future.
During the first or second week of August, Bay City Contracting’s subcontractor, Coratina Construction Ltd., will start to install concrete curb and gutter along Portage Avenue, all the way from First Street to Sixth Street.
Weather will play a role as to when the concrete crew will be on-site.
The Town of Fort Frances thanks the public in advance for their co-operation.
