Riverside Health Care Facilities, Inc. has received its annual infrastructure funding in the amount of $457,239 after the provincial government invested $36 million for upgrades at Ontario hospitals for 2007-08.
The funding was allocated from the Health Infrastructure Renewal Fund (HIRF).
Although the local health care facilities have been provided with the funds for the past several years, Riverside CEO Wayne Woods noted the amount varies from year to year.
“What it’s actually used for is to keep our buildings up to snuff,” he explained. “You can’t use it for buying new medical equipment or anything like that.
“So it has to be used on the buildings to keep them in good repair.”
Woods noted the funds will be divided up between the four area health facilities to help with upkeep.
“It certainly does help because obviously we don’t have to take it out of our own reserves,” he added. “It gives us the opportunity to keep things going.”
