RILLA RACE

My name is Rilla Race and I am a candidate for reeve of Chapple, where I was raised and lived for all but 20 years of my life.
I have been a member of Chapple council for 17 years, serving on several district committees during that time. At present, I am council rep on the Rainy River District Municipal Association executive and the Emo/La Vallee/Chapple library board.
I also chair the Emergency Management Program and Chapple Heritage Committee.
The position of reeve carries many duties. Among them:
•as chair, to set the tone for co-operative working of council, where each elected member contributes to discussions and debates on issues concerning the township;
•ensure community concerns are addressed in the most equitable and respectful way;
•seek opportunities to encourage growth and to work with staff to obtain necessary funding for infrastructure projects as set out in our asset management plan;
•represent Chapple Township publicly on other occasions as needed; and
•encourage and promote combined efforts with other municipalities to consolidate resources and share responsibilities throughout the district.
We now have joint building inspection, emergency management, and fire services.
There are many challenges ahead as new legislation and compliance with provincial regulations become more complex and expensive. I have worked hard to keep up to date on issues which affect Chapple, and I am prepared to do what is necessary to fulfill the duties of reeve for the benefit of our community.
I am the third generation in my family to be a member of Chapple council. Both of my grandfathers were elected to Chapple council many years ago, as was my father (for 36 years as councillor and reeve).
Going forward, I hope to continue this family legacy of service to the people of Chapple.
