Motorcyclists will be taking to area highways next Saturday (Aug. 25) for the local Alzheimer Society’s 10th-annual “Ride for Memories,” with this year’s ride ending in Sioux Lookout that evening.
Riders from across Northwestern Ontario are encouraged to get involved to collect pledges and enjoy a ride.
Lynn Moffatt, executive director of the Alzheimer Society here, said yesterday that 66 riders have registered so far, but organizers are expecting at least 120 out next weekend.
There are four starting locations across the region—Fort Frances, Kenora, Dryden, and Sioux Lookout.
Local riders will leave from The Harbourage at 8:30 a.m.
The public is encouraged to come by, check out the riders’ bikes, and wish them well.
This year, the ride is going to Dryden, Ignace, and then finishing in Sioux Lookout with a steak dinner and awards ceremony, which will take place at the Sunset Inn & Suites.
Prizes will be awarded for the top fundraiser and poker hands.

One of the most important fundraising events for the local Alzheimer Society, organizers are hoping to raise $40,000 to help support more than 1,000 people living with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia in the Kenora and Rainy River districts.
Even those people not riding still can support the fundraiser by making a donation to help the Alzheimer Society reach its goal.

Demand for services is steadily climbing as the number of Canadians with dementia surges. An estimated 1.3 million Canadians will be affected by 2038.
Cash calendars
In related news, the 2012-13 cash calendars from the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River District are now on sale for $20 each.
The Alzheimer Society will be selling them at the Emo Fair later this week and at Canadian Tire this Saturday (Aug. 18), and the calendars will soon be available at the Fort Frances Times and Emo Inn.
