The local Valley Adult Learning Association is inviting people from across the district to be inspired and motivated this spring through a fun-filled evening, complete with a motivational speaker.
“We just wanted it to be a real inspirational fun night for people, coming and listening to the motivational speaker who is going to be talking about how to reach your goals, customer service, how to succeed, [and] how to reach your dreams,” said Barb Duguay of VALA.
Slated for April 16 at the Townshend Theatre, and organized in partnership with the local Business Women’s Network and Rainy River Future Development Corp., the evening will feature motivational speaker Quincy Oliver.
“I am looking so forward visiting Canada to deliver a powerful, positive, and life-transforming message,” said Oliver, who is an award-winning motivational speaker, trainer, consultant, and author.
“The evening is going to be absolutely electrifying, inspirational, and inspiring!” he pledged.
“Most people are living their lives by default rather than by design,” Oliver continued. “It’s time for them to design a new plan and live a new life.”
Oliver said he’s learned that you will never possess what you are unwilling to pursue.
“I help people to get their lives unstuck, realize their full potential and what is possible for them to achieve in life, regardless of their present situation,” he explained.
“The event will help each person to determine what’s important to them, the courage to take action, and to live their lives to the fullest without regrets,” he added.
“Each individual will leave with a greater sense of purpose, a greater sense of determination, and greater sense of servanthood.”
Tickets for the evening, which cost $20 each, are available at Betty’s, the VALA and RRFDC’s offices, and through the BWN.
“Your $20 actually entails everything,” said Duguay, noting a full evening is being planned.
With the doors opening at 5 p.m. for “early birds,” a “smorgasbord of finger food and hors d’oeuvres” will be served from 5:30-6:30 by local caterers who will be “showcasing their talent,” said Duguay.
Sparkling apple cider also will be served.
Oliver then will speak for 45 minutes, followed by a break where coffee, tea, and dessert will be served, and then another 50 minutes of motivational speaking.
BWN members, along with other organizations, will be setting up booths in the high school cafeteria, Duguay noted, so people can browse through the different vendors, booths, and promotions while mingling and trying out the caterers.
“It’s a great way to end your week,” Duguay enthused, adding they hope to fill the theatre.
“VALA’s mandate is to network with employers in the community, also network with our other [Employment Ontario] partners,” explained Duguay.
“So we just thought this would be a really fun night of meeting employers [and] employers meeting the organizations that are also helping individuals in the area find jobs or do training.”
Duguay said they also are looking to target agencies that would like to send their staff, like a professional development type of motivational night.
“So agencies can phone us if they want to buy bulk tickets,” she noted.
