A trio of speakers are on the agenda this evening to ask town council to delay a proposed re-zoning in order to convert the former Huffman School property on Williams Avenue into a residential subdivision.
Robert Schulz and Erma and Bob Armit will make presentations at a public meeting following tonight’s council meeting.
The re-zoning—from institutional to residential—is to accommodate the creation of a 16-lot residential subdivision, with six fronting Williams Avenue and an additional 10 on a proposed cul-de-sac.
The town bought the property in November, 2010 from the Rainy River District School Board for $158,325.74, with the intention to utilize the site for residential development that may or may not have involved demolition of the vacant school.
After having several committees review potential usage of the property, it was determined that demolishing the school and developing the property to sell for housing lots was the best option.
The public portion of the committee of the whole meeting is scheduled to start at 5:50 p.m., with the council meeting to follow at 6:15.
Other business on tonight’s agenda includes:
•a request for refund of fee for Minor Variance A11/2012 (940 Crowe Ave.);
•a recommendation re: Seniors and Law Enforcement
Together (S.A.L.T.) and Assisted Living Action Group (A.L.A.G.) request for designation of potential building sites for a future assisted living facility here;
•a report re: the 2013 user fee schedule;
•a report re: council remuneration;
•a report re: the tourist information building here;
•a report re: the cancellation of town’s annual appreciation dinner (initially scheduled for Nov. 30);
•a request from T. Ogden re: acknowledgement of citizens who have been inducted into the Northwestern Ontario Sports Hall of Fame; and
•a decision from the Committee of Adjustment re: File No. A11/2012 (Bruce James Thompson and Diane Marie Thompson) and B1/2012 re: File. No. B1/2012 (Gordon James Ross).
