Residential schools focus of new exhibit at museum

The Fort Frances Museum will be hosting an exhibition, entitled “Ontario Residential Schools: Our Story,” which examines the history and impact of the federal government’s First Nations’ residential school policy.
The exhibition includes a traveling exhibit from the Red Lake Museum, which focuses on the Red Lake and Pelican Lake schools.
An additional exhibit, representing the local Fort Frances schools, also will be on display.
An opening and prayer will be held Thursday, July 31 at 10 a.m., with light refreshments.
Then at 2 p.m., there will be a special presentation of a film about the Mikinaak school in Onigaming, illustrating a good example of how First Nations’ schools can be approached in the future.
The public is welcome to attend both events.
The exhibition will continue through Oct. 11 at the Fort Frances Museum.
