Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) Commissioner Julian Fantino invites Ontarians to read the OPP 2009 Business Plan and 2008 Annual Report that can now be found online at www.opp.ca.
The plan/report is an excellent resource that facilitates the public’s understanding of how the OPP conducts its core business and how it is keeping Ontario’s communities safe and secure. The document also provides information on the effectiveness and results of OPP strategies, priorities and outcomes from one year to the next.
“Transparency is the basis of accountability and our 2009 Business Plan / 2008 Annual Report is an excellent way for the OPP to be open with Ontarians about how we are keeping our communities safe, as well as how we are performing in the delivery of our diverse services to the people of Ontario,” said OPP Commissioner Julian Fantino.
“The OPP is proud to have progressively set the benchmark of excellence in policing in the pursuit of our vision “Safe Communities….A Secure Ontario,” he added.

In 2008, the OPP responded to more than 716,000 calls for service while policing over one million square kilometres of land and water in Ontario.
The OPP’s Missing Persons and Unidentified Bodies Unit (MPUB), through the Resolve Initiative has been involved or has assisted in solving 35 missing persons and/or unidentified human remains case since 2006.
The OPP Child Sexual Exploitation Section rescued 34 children in 2008.
Over 8,000 charges have been laid since inception of the “Anti-Racing Legislation”.
There were 129 fewer deaths from motor vehicle collisions on roads patrolled by the OPP in 2008 compared to 2007.
