A new report received by town council last night shows how much the mayor and councillors were paid in 2014, with Mayor Roy Avis again ranking as the highest-paid and having the most expenses.
Mayor Avis, who also sits on the Fort Frances Power Corp. board of directors and local Police Services Board, had remuneration totalling $31,752.32.
This total consists of a base salary of $23,000.12 plus $2,100 in per diems, $1,850 for being on the Police Services Board, and $4,802.20 for being on the FFPC board.
Mayor Avis also had $5,674.54 in conference expenses in 2014.
Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft, who no longer sits on council after not seeking re-election in last fall’s municipal election, had remuneration equal to $13,828.73 in 2014.
This included a base salary of $11,307.73, per diems of $825, and $1,696 for serving on the Police Services Board.
He also had $752.84 in conference expenses.
Coun. Paul Ryan had remuneration totalling $13,800.04 in 2014, with a salary of $12,000.04 and $1,800 in per diems.
He also had $3,116.29 in conference expenses.
Coun. Ken Perry also had remuneration equalling $13,800.04, with a salary of $12,000.04 and $1,800 in per diems.
He had $2,744.48 in conference expenses.
Coun. John Albanese had remuneration totalling $13,125.04, including a salary of $12,000.04 and $1,125 in per diems.
He had $880.96 in conference expenses.
Coun. Andrew Hallikas, who no longer sits on council after unsuccessfully running for mayor last fall, had remuneration totalling $12,882.73 in 2014, consisting of a salary of $11,307.73 and $1,575 in per diems.
He also had conference expenses amounting to $1,281.29.
Coun. Wendy Brunetta, elected to council in last fall’s election, had a salary of $692.31 in 2014.
She also had $110 in conference expenses.
Coun. June Caul, also elected in the fall, had a salary of $692.31.
The report is issued each year in accordance with the Municipal Act.
Also at last night’s meeting, council passed a bylaw to exempt the local Legion from municipal taxes from 2010-19.
The town will be giving the Legion a refund for 2010-14 in the amount of $17,936.03.
Going forward, upon payment of each year’s entire taxes, the Legion can write a letter to the town treasurer to request reimbursement of the municipal portion.
This exemption, which the town has granted since 1927, is allowed under provincial law.
