A new report received by town council Monday night shows how much mayor and councillors were paid in 2010, with Mayor Roy Avis ranking as the highest-paid and having the most expenses.
Mayor Avis, who also sits on the Fort Frances Power Corp. board of directors and local Police Services Board, had expenses and remuneration totalling $37,959.08.
This total consists of a base salary of $22,3274.20 plus $1,950 in per diems, $1,850 for being on the Police Services Board, $4,802.20 for being on the FFPC board, and $6,982.68 for conference expenses.
Coun. Paul Ryan ranked second, earning $16,975.78.
This breaks down to a base salary of $10,621.96, plus $1,560 in per diems and $4,793.82 for conference expenses.
Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft had total expenses and remuneration equal to $16,750.06 (base salary of $10,621.96, $1,320 in per diems, $1,850 for serving on the Police Services Board, and $2,958.10 for conference expenses).
Coun. Ken Perry had total expenses and remuneration equal to $14,684.14 (base salary of $10,621.96, $840 in per diems, and $3,222.18 for conference expenses).
Coun. Andrew Hallikas had total expenses and remuneration equal to $14,286.14 (base salary of $10,621.96, $780 in per diems, and $2,884.18 for conference expenses).
Coun. John Albanese had total expenses and remuneration equal to $12,901.76 (base salary of $10,621.96, $720 in per diems, and $1,559.80 for conference expenses).
Finally, Coun. Sharon Tibbs had total expenses and remuneration equal to $10,977.34 (base salary of $10,737.34 and $240 in per diems).
Coun. Tibbs’ salary is slightly higher than the other councillors as she also serves as deputy mayor.
The annual report was issued in accordance with the Municipal Act.
Also at Monday’s night meeting, council:
•appointed Linda Hamilton and Gord McBride to the Citizen of the Year Committee, for a two-year term ending Nov. 30, 2012;
•appointed Richard Boileau and Michael Tullio to the Business Improvement Area Board of Management (BIA), for a four-year term ending Nov. 30, 2014;
•received an invitation from Bruce Caldwell re: the 12th-annual “Fly-In, Drive-In BBQ” on June 4 at the Fort Frances Airport;
•agreed that the town opposes a change to the Ontario Building Code re: cross contamination and backflow prevention of potable water systems, and directed staff to complete the necessary documentation and file said opposition to the Ministry of Municipal Affairs and Housing; and
•agreed to proceed with the expression of interest process for the old Fort Frances Public Library building with immediate public advertisement.
