Rendez-Vous dining room getting makeover

With a canoe silhouette hanging over their heads, and a bulkhead formed out of one of the walls, those dining at La Place Rendez-Vous after Jan. 17 will find themselves in a whole new atmosphere as the room is getting a facelift—voyageur-style.
“We’re kind of excited,” said Georges Blanc, who co-owns the Rendez-Vous with Paul Noonan.
“Most of the changes are cosmetic. Decor, furnishings. Jean Marc’s architectural expertise has come into play,” he added, referring to his son’s major role in developing the “modern cottage-style” theme to the dining room.
Blanc noted the raised dining area/dance floor will be removed so diners will all be on one level. “We’ve had the raised section for 20 years, so it will be different not having it there,” he admitted.
But Blanc added the seating capacity should remain about the same, “just configured differently.”
Contractors, including Lovisa Construction, D.J. Roach Electric, BGM Painting, and Pryde’s Plumbing and Heating, have been working almost around the clock since Jan. 2 to get the renovations done by next Friday.
Blanc said meals still are being served in the lounge during the time the dining room is closed.
Besides continuing to upgrade rooms at the hotel, Blanc noted another project will be underway in the next year or so—decorating the lounge in a theme similar to the dining room.
“The thing is, we have to choose the time that’s best to shut it down. It looks like next January might be best,” he said.
