Remembrance Day tea plans in full swing

Press Release

The Legion Ladies Auxiliary to Br. #29 met upstairs at the Legion on Wednesday, Sept. 13.
There were 35 members in attendance, which president Alfreda Easton welcomed back after a well-deserved break.
Before the summer break, four bursaries were awarded to graduating Fort Frances High School students: Gabriella Mcdougall, Hailey George, Gabi Peters, and Brooke Vandrunen.
Good luck with your studies, girls!
Donations were made to “backpacks for kids” and to the Fort Frances Seniors’ Centre to help with their 50/50 draw.
The auxiliary also assisted four children going to the Peace Gardens sports camp. They were Tatum Ronmark Kielczewski, Simone Payne, Jayden Woolsey, and Bennet McDonald.
The ladies will be hosting Bingo at Rainycrest in September and October.
A much-needed new upright freezer was purchased.
All in attendance got right back at it, with plans for the Remembrance Day tea in full swing.
New this year will be “Pick-A-Poppy,” with bags being decorated by children at Crossroads School in Devlin.
Items for these bags can be donated by calling Giselle Calder at 274-9346.
We also are looking for jewellery donations (call Larissa Curr at 274-6817).
We are supporting the Riverside Foundation for Health Care’s “Making Magic” event being held on Oct. 14 by purchasing a bronze sponsorship.
A very busy season is approaching and Vicki Jewell is counting on everyone when called upon to help, even if only for a short time.
The auxiliary’s next monthly supper is planned for Friday, Sept. 29, with pork cutlets and all the trimmings on the menu.
Doors open at 4:30 p.m. and a 50/50 draw also will be held that night.
Take-outs are available by calling 274-3772.
The August birthday draw winner was Caroline Oliver while Alfreda Easton won the draw for September.
The attendance draw winner was Clara Steinke, with Cheryl Gartley winning the 50/50 draw.
The auxiliary’s next meeting will be a potluck held on Wednesday, Oct. 11.
If you can, please bring an item for the tea grocery hamper.
As well, the membership early-bird draws will start next month, so pay early and get in on three chances to win your dues back.
If you are interested in joining these ladies and would like more information, call Joann Gosselin at 274-5932.
