Registration open for seniors’ fair

Press Release

June is “Seniors’ Month” so the Fort Frances Senior Centre will be celebrating with a seniors’ fair to be held on Thursday, June 6 at the centre.

An interesting day has been planned. The doors will open at 9 a.m. for check-in, coffee and socializing.

The fair will officially start at 9:30 a.m. with a welcome from Mayor June Caul.

The morning session will be delivered by Safeway pharmacist David Schwartz, who will deal with pharmaceutical issues and seniors with a focus on the normal aging process.

The afternoon session will deal with financial issues for seniors with a focus on frauds and scams directed to seniors, wills, and financial co-signers. The presenter will be Trudy McCormick of the Northwest Community Legal Clinic.

There will be an opportunity for questions following both presentations.

In addition to the presentations, there will be a number of exhibitors including Service Canada, the Alzheimer Society of Kenora/Rainy River Districts, Westway, Valley Diabetes, LHIN Community Care, Northwestern Health Unit, Canadian Mental Health, the Fort Frances Family Health Team, and the Fort Frances Fire Department.

Attendance prizes contributed by the exhibitors will be awarded throughout the day.

Lunch and coffee breaks will be provided by the centre.

Although there is no cost to attend the event, participants are asked to pre-register so that organizers can know how many people to expect.

If transportation is required, please advise when registering.

To register for the fair, contact the Senior Centre at 274-7656 or stop in the centre at 401 Nelson St. before June 3.

Registration will be limited so early registration is encouraged.
