Re-inventing Fort Frances group seeking funding

Joining the “Re-Inventing Fort Frances” committee at yesterday’s weekly meeting was Jane Gillon, local representative of the Ministry of Northern Development and Mines.
The topic of discussion was the availability of funding for consultant costs.
She and Geoff Gillon, local economic development officer, helped to identify sources of funding available for the analysis of the project.
Northern Development and Mines is interested in looking at the concept, and will determine to what extent it can assist through the Northern Ontario Heritage Fund.
A pre-proposal application will go to the Heritage Fund in the next week, with more details following if or when it agrees to participate.
The consultant’s report is expected to validate the concept and identify other avenues required to accomplish our goals.
The consultant will put a comprehensive plan in place for presentation to government agencies for funding the different phases of the “Re-Inventing Fort Frances” project.
The committee is scheduled to be on the agenda of the next Fort Frances council meeting Nov. 26 to request commitment of participation and partnering by the town.
It also is requesting confirmation of commitment from local associations that previously have verbally agreed to share in the cost.
If you’ve noticed the “Re-Inventing Fort Frances” display has disappeared from the BIA window, you’ll find it has been moved to inside the lobby of the Rainy Lake Hotel so the outside window can be decorated for the Christmas season.
Everyone is welcome to go in and look, and drop off ideas in the suggestion box.
