Cornell Farms in La Vallee is pleased to have Mark Reeves opening its 2018 barn concert series this Monday (June 11) beginning at 7:30 p.m.
Anyone who loves R&B immediately will be inspired by Reeves’ infectious, dance-all-night groove thang. But there are profoundly beautiful moments here and unpretentious lyrical wisdom that makes you sit back while you catch your breath.
Kim Cornell is pleased that Reeves could fit Cornell Farms into his busy performing schedule.
“When Keith and Renee performed at Cornell Farms last summer, they insisted that Mark Reeves was perfect for the barn,” he noted.
“In talking to other presenters, we’ve been told that he has a mesmerizing stage presence.
“It’s a concert not to be missed!” Cornell stressed. “We are lucky that he could fit us in to his busy schedule.”
Reeves won a scholarship to Boston’s Berklee College of Music at age 19, paid his dues in the blues clubs, made a record with Los Lobos producer Keith Keller at Keller’s mansion in New Orleans, and won a sackful of awards.
He’s also warmed up stages for everyone from Robert Cray and Blue Rodeo to Colin James and Jesse Winchester.
It’s been said that if Bonnie Raitt and Lyle Lovett had a love child, Mark Reeves would be it.
A review from the Meaford Live Music Blog has this to say about Reeves:
“Mark Reeves amazed me with the sound of his harmonica and the dynamics, from high sweet tones to wailing. And that was just a third of his musical arsenal.
“He plays guitar with a finesse that is always moving around, from rhythmic strumming to arpeggio runs to dead stops, the most risky and effective thing that a solo performer can do with a guitar.
“And his voice is such an emotional powerhouse, drenched in a blues sound, it grabs you from the first line.”
Reeves is a rare, blazingly-talented artist who leaves unsuspecting audiences slack-jawed and eager for more.
We are hoping for a full house to see this amazing performer.
Cornell Farms hasn’t scheduled any local openers for their concerts this season.
