Rainycrest outbreak expanded to Special Care Unit

An ongoing respiratory outbreak at Rainycrest Long-Term Care Home has been expanded to include an additional unit.

In a press release dated Tuesday, March 24, Riverside Health Care announced that the ongoing respiratory outbreak that had been announced for the facility’s East Wing has now been expanded to include the Special Care Unit (SCU).

According to Riverside, visitor restrictions and masking protocols are in place, and enhanced masking remains in place in all resident care areas, which includes required medical masking for all visitors to the facility.

Only two visitors or caregivers may visit at a time, and Riverside recommends that those coming into the facility should only visit one resident per trip, with visitations being required to be held in resident’s rooms, rather than the common areas.

Additionally, there are currently restrictions on admissions, transfers and discharges at Rainycrest, and large group social activities for residents in outbreak areas have been paused until further notice.

“Riverside urges all visitors to conduct self-screenings before entering our facilities. Individuals experiencing flu-like symptoms are kindly asked not to visit at that time,” Riverside said in the release.

“We continue to emphasize the importance of good hand hygiene and encourage everyone to be mindful of potential exposure risks. The Outbreak Management Team will continue to monitor the situation. The care and safety of our residents, team members and families are our top priority.”

Riverside announced the original respiratory outbreak in the East Wing last week on Tuesday, March 17.
