Rainy Lake Hotel closed, owner jailed

The doors at a longtime Scott Street landmark have been closed, at least for the time being.
Fort Frances OPP officers arrested the owner of the Rainy Lake Hotel on Tuesday on a warrant of committal, issued by the Superior Court of Justice.
Ladislav “Larry” Syrovy, 47, was taken to the district jail in Fort Frances, where he will spend the next 30 days, reported Cst. Dereck McLean.
The warrant was executed shortly before 10 a.m. on Tuesday. By 11 a.m., patrons had been told to leave the premises and tenants were removing their property from the building.
Patti Anderson, co-ordinator for the Business Improvement Association whose office is located inside the Rainy Lake Hotel, was moving items out of the office Tuesday morning.
She said she’ll likely continue to work out of her home for now.
Meanwhile, Dr. Robert Lidkea of the Fort Frances Kiwanis Club removed some items that were kept in the building where the service group frequently hold meetings.
“We’ve met there since 1929,” Dr. Lidkea noted.
