Rainy Lake Hotel among council presentations

Town council will get final recommendations as to what to do with the vacant Rainy Lake Hotel property at tonight’s regular meeting.
Consultant Tannis Drysdale will present the findings of the Rainy Lake Hotel Advisory Committee, which had undertaken a consultation process from March to May, including a public meeting held April 18.
The recommendations include input provided during the consultation process.
As previously reported, the committee has been looking at demolishing the building and replacing it with a market square, complete with market stalls, a stage, and public washrooms.
Also tonight will be a report from Coun. Rick Wiedenhoeft regarding the status of plans for the 100th anniversary celebrations of the international bridge and Canada Customs to be held here Aug. 1.
Meanwhile, the chairpersons of the Administration and Finance, Community Services, Operations and Facilities, and Planning and Development executive committees will give activity reports as to what their respective divisions have been up to.
Finally, Jeff Savage of BDO Canada will present council with the 2011 audited town financial statements.
This public portion of tonight’s committee of the whole meeting is scheduled to start at 6:05 p.m.
It will be followed by the council meeting at 6:40 p.m.
Other business on the agenda includes:
•a report re: in-kind services for Canada Day celebrations on July 1 (Fun in the Sun);
•a report re: the selection of a auditor for the town’s drinking water quality management system;
•a report in response to requests made by Seniors and Retirees Against Pension and Elder Abuse (SRAPEA);
•a recommendation re: a financial request for the RBC charity golf tournament;
•an update on capital projects by Operations and Facilities manager Doug Brown;
•a bylaw to authorize entering into a lease agreement with Bell Mobility Inc. for space on the municipal water tower;
•a bylaw to award a contract under Tender 12-PD-06 to Racco Industrial Roofing for Civic Centre roof retrofit; and
•a bylaw to approve a contract with 1204626 Ontario Inc. Makkinga Contracting and Equipment Rentals for road reconstruction and watermain replacement.
