Quilt workshop planned

Two successful Canadian businesswomen in the world of quilting design are scheduled to lecture and give a workshop here in January.
Cori Derksen and Myra Harder, of Blue Meadow Designs in Winkler, Man., are quilting teachers, authors of several pattern books, and have their own line of fabric with RJR Fabrics.
The Country Cabin Quilt Guild, a local group of about 40 women, booked the duo to speak here on Friday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. at the J.W. Walker School gym.
They also will hold a two-day quilting workshop there on Saturday, Jan. 27 from 9 a.m.-9 p.m., and again on Sunday, Jan. 28 from 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
“The lecture is open to the public, and the women will speak about their process to success and how they developed their business,” Guild president Kim Roy said earlier this week.
“They also will do a little trunk show of their work,” she added.
The workshop, which is limited to 24 people, will see participants working from one of several quilting kits provided by Blue Meadow Designs.
The cost to attend the lecture is $5 at the door while the workshop fee is $110, which includes food for the weekend event. The quilting kit is a separate cost.
Registrations for the quilting workshop are now being accepted through Roy at 274-6807 until the end of the month, as is information on the cost and variety of quilting kits.
More information on Derksen and Harder can be found on their website at www.bluemeadowdesigns.com
The Country Cabin Quilt Guild meets the first Wednesday of each month at 7 p.m. at the Fort Frances Volunteer Bureau (old CN station) and welcomes new members anytime.
