The talent really hit the stage last night at the annual “Kiddie Quest” and “Quest for the Best” shows under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina.
Dubbed by many as the best “Quest” in a long time, the judges really had their work cut out for them.
Although the tent was not as packed as in previous years, the energy on the stage—and in the audience—definitely was not in short supply.
The evening opened with “Kiddie Quest” and even then it was clear the show was about to step it up a notch.
With Teagan and Seth Lauzon doing a sassy rendition of Johnny and June Carter Cash’s “Jackson” all the way to Danielle Hammond’s remake of Miley Cyrus’ “See You Again,” the crowd was riveted and tuned in to every lyric.
In the end, Bridget Jorgenson took third place with Carrie Underwood’s “So Small” while Jade Green earned second place, as well as the people’s choice award, for “Leaving on a Jet Plane” by John Denver.
But it was Dylan Ossachuk, last year’s runner-up, who captured the hearts of the judges to win top honours with Bon Jovi’s “You Want to Make a Memory.”
“Quest for the Best” then picked up where the first show left off with two performances by “Kiddie Quest” veterans Katelyn Shortreed and Ericka Tymkin.
There were many familiar faces on the stage, but also a handful of newcomers who made the crowd wonder where they had been all these years.
In fact, two newcomers actually placed in the race for first.
Alex Marusyk sang “The Thunder Rolls” by Garth Brooks to finish fourth while Maverick Judson turned on the charm—and the dance moves—to place third, as well as take the people’s choice award for the first set, with Finger Eleven’s “Paralyzer.”
Second place went to Tymkin, who sang “Last Name” by Carrie Underwood.
First place, along with most original, people’s choice for second set, and audience response, went to third-year participant Ken Kellar with “How Far We’ve Come” by Matchbox 20.
The contestants’ choice award went to Jason Godin and Alicia Fawn, who staged a heart-warming rendition of “I Need You” by Tim McGraw and Faith Hill.
