‘Quest’ ready to rock

With the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship in full swing next week, fans of local singing talent will want to check out “Quest for the Best” and “Kiddie Quest” under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina next Tuesday (July 22).
Dawn Booth, manager at the Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce, said organizers are all ready for the popular contest, judges and sponsors are in place, contestants have confirmed their song choices, and the back-up band, “The Faculty,” is in the process of learning all the songs.
There will be 22 contestants for “Quest” and 13 for “Kiddie Quest” this year.
“Quest” contestants, and the songs they’ll be performing, include:

The event starts at 6 p.m., with “Kiddie Quest” taking the stage first.
Tickets for “Quest,” which nearly always sells out, are on sale now at the Chamber office (474 Scott St.) and Canadian Tire. They cost $13 in advance and $15 at the door (if there are any left).
Booth noted tickets for the event cover both “Kiddie Quest” and “Quest.” There are not separate tickets for the two contests as some people have asked about—it’s all one show.
“Quest for the Best” is a local singing competition held annually to showcase local talent. Contestants must be at least 14 years old for “Quest for the Best” or 13 years of age or younger to perform in “Kiddie Quest.”
As far as prizes up for grabs, the first-place “Quest” winner will get $500 in cash, as well as a $2,500 recording session with Andrew George’s “All Good Projects.”
Other “Quest” prizes include: second place ($300), third place ($200), people’s choice for first set ($150), people’s choice for second set ($150), most original ($100), contestants’ choice ($100), and audience response ($100).
This year’s “Kiddie Quest” prizes include first place ($200), second place ($150), third place ($100), and people’s choice ($50).
