‘Quest’ looking for more singers

While the 10 spots for “Kiddie Quest” are filled up, organizers still are looking for more contestants to strut their stuff on stage for this year’s “Quest for the Best” on July 25.
“We have 11 signed up for ‘Quest,’ so we have nine spots available and the deadline to sign up is Friday [June 9,]” noted Fort Frances Chamber of Commerce manager Dawn Booth, who is organizing the event again this year.
While there is ample room for more acts in “Quest,” there’s a waiting list for “Kiddie Quest,” she added.
Entry forms are available at the Chamber office (474 Scott St.)
Some past “Quest” winners are coming back this year, including Sarah Hebert and Kayla Lauzon. Also returning is Jeremy Wilson—“a crowd favourite,” said Booth.
“There’s actually quite a few newcomers this year, as well, which is nice to see,” she added.
Among the 11 acts signed up so far, only one is a duet.
Booth said she would prefer to run the contest with at least 15 acts, and will extend the deadline is necessary. “But we hope we won’t have to do that,” she remarked.
Having people signed up early gives the back-up band more time to learn their songs, Booth explained.
“The Faculty,” comprised of Rob Donaldson, Chris Denby, Steve Denby, and Jim Newman, will return as the back-up band this year.
“Quest for the Best” is a local singing competition held annually to showcase the many talented performers in the area. It is open to anyone aged 14 and up, with both solo and duet performances being eligible.
The entry fee for “Quest” is $25 per person or “35 for a duet.
“Kiddie Quest” is open to contestants aged 13 or younger, with an entry fee of $10.
Both “Quest” and “Kiddie Quest” will take place under the big tent at the Sorting Gap Marina on Tuesday, July 25 in conjunction with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
Tickets will go on sale in early July, and be available only at the Chamber office.
