“Quest for the Best” will see a battle between newcomers and veterans of the stage when the annual singing competition takes place next month in conjunction with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
Organizer Dawn Booth confirmed Monday that “The Best of Quest” will see 10 new contestants competing in one set on July 21, with one winner from that group going on to vie against 10 previous winners in a second set that same night.
The previous “Quest” participants will be drawn from first- and second-place finishers as well as People’s Choice winners. Five had been located and agreed to participate as of Monday afternoon.
Booth noted there will be first-, second-, and third-place winners named from the final batch, but added contestants from either the first or second set are eligible for prizes such as Audience Participation, People’s Choice, and Contestants’ Choice.
Booth said if anyone is a previous “Quest” winner but have not been contacted by the Chamber, they should call the Chamber (274-5773) or drop by 474 Scott St. to let them know if you’re interested in participating.
They also can contact the Chamber via e-mail at thefort@nwonet.net
Likewise, for those who want to be among the 10 new “Quest” competitors, entry forms are now available at the Chamber office, Rainy Lake Hotel, and B93-FM, or on-line at www.fortfranceschamber.com
Cost is $25 for solo acts and $35 for duets. Contestants must be at least 14 years of age.
The entry deadline is Friday, June 25. Booth said she needs the entries by then so details, including song selections so the back-up band can learn them, can be worked out promptly.
She noted the Chamber wanted to change the format for this year’s “Quest” not only because it is the 10th anniversary of the FFCBC but also the 10th “Quest for the Best,” which has been a very popular event since its inception.
As with past years, “Quest” also needs the support of local businesses to become a reality, Booth stressed.
As such, the Chamber is looking for sponsors for cash prizes for third place ($200) and Contestants’ Choice ($100), as well as a co-sponsor for first place (half of the $500 purse).
Sponsors will receive recognition, as well as free tickets and reserved seating, at the event.
If you are interested in being a sponsor or have any questions, call Booth at 274-5773 as soon as possible.
Booth noted “Quest” tickets probably will go on sale Monday, July 5. Last year, the sold-out show saw about 1,800 people in attendance.
