With the deadline to sign up to compete in this year’s “Quest for the Best” coming up in two weeks, singers already are starting to line up to take a shot at being the champ.
“We’ve got four for ‘Kiddie Quest’ and three for the regular ‘Quest,’” Chamber of Commerce manager Dawn Booth said. “So that’s a start.”
The popular singing contest—which once again will be open to both teens and adults with “Quest,” and younger performers with “Kiddie Quest”—will take to the stage Tuesday, July 24 in conjunction with the Fort Frances Canadian Bass Championship.
In the past, there’s been about 20 “Quest” contestants and 10 for “Kiddie Quest.” But Booth said organizers are willing to be a little flexible as to how many competitors will be allowed.
Entry forms are available at the Chamber office (474 Scott St.), as well as downloadable from its website (www.fortfranceschamber.com).
The deadline to register is Friday, June 15.
“Quest for the Best” is a local singing competition held annually to showcase the many talented performers in the area. It is open to anyone age 14 and up, with both solo and duet performances eligible.
The entry fee for “Quest” is $25 per person or $35 for a duet.
Meanwhile, “Kiddie Quest” is open to contestants 13 years old or younger. The entry fee is $10.
Booth noted tickets won’t go on sale until early July, but added prices will be going up a little bit. Tickets will cost $13 in advance and $15 at the door.
“Hopefully, that doesn’t deter anybody from coming out,” she said, adding organizers are looking for ways to add more features to the show to make up for the slightly higher ticket price.
Organizers also are looking for prize sponsors. Booth said she just sent out information this week outlining sponsorship details to Chamber members.
While the FFCBC and B•93 FM are the main “Quest” sponsors, Sears Canada will be the main “Kiddie Quest” sponsor and the Northern Lights Credit Union will be sponsoring the “People’s Choice” prize for the first of two sets that evening.
But numerous other prizes (first, second, and third place, as well as People’s Choice, Contestants’ Choice, Most Original, Audience Response, etc.) still need sponsors, noted Booth.
