Five contestants will be competing in this year’s “Fun in the Sun” queen pageant, organizer Melissa Gushulak confirmed Monday.
This year’s participants include Elizabeth Black (sponsored by Tim Hortons and Pro Shine), Chelsea Bragg (Norfab Building Components), Shanna Ewald (Holmlund Financial), Alyssa Holliday (Camp Narrows Lodge), and Sonnie Martin (Dancemakers and Beauty Essentials).
Gushulak wanted to line up the contestants earlier than usual this year in order to get them involved in more activities prior to the July 1 crowning.
And the five contestants will be very busy starting next week. First off, they will be involved in delivering “Meals on Wheels” on May 28-31, and will be interviewed on B•93 FM.
This will be followed by a garage and bake sale, spaghetti supper, an entertainment night, a car wash, the Fort Frances Public Library’s annual Teddy Bears’ Picnic, kids’ activities, and a bake sale for the BIA’s “Mall Day.”
The exact schedule for the above events still is being worked out, noted Gushulak.
As in past years, the contestants also will be designing their own banners, selling buttons, decorating floats for the Canada Day parade, and prepare picnic baskets for an auction on July 1.
And the duties won’t stop there because even after the three winners are crowned, the queen, first princess, and second princess will be participating in community events throughout the next year (up to July 1, 2007).
Gushulak noted the theme for Fun in the Sun this year is “Wild, Wild West,” and that the public can expect to see that worked into what the queen contestants wear and do.
Anyone with questions about the pageant is encouraged to call Gushulak at 274-5206 and leave a message.
