Fort Frances OPP officers received a complaint of a stolen purse from an unlocked vehicle on Tuesday.
The theft occurred overnight while the vehicle was parked at a Second Street West residence.
The purse contained no cash, but credit cards later were used to fraudulently obtain a room at a local hotel.
A 42-year-old Winnipeg woman was arrested and charged with one count of fraud. She later was released from police custody and scheduled to appear in court Nov. 26.
Meanwhile, a Winnipeg man, 51, was arrested and charged with fraud, failing to comply with an undertaking, and breaching a probation order.
He was remanded in police custody and was scheduled to appear in court yesterday.
This matter is still under investigation.
The OPP would like to remind the public of the importance of removing valuables from vehicles and ensuring they are locked. Remember: lock it or lose it!
On Monday, a First Street East resident reported youths stole a 50-pound cement frog from her front yard during the evening of Oct. 12.
As well, a Scott Street resident reported all four tires of his pickup truck were slashed sometime between midnight and 4:30 a.m. on Monday while it was parked behind his garage.
Also Monday, Rainy River OPP officers received a complaint of an assault that occurred at a residence on Byrnes Road in Dawson Township.
As a result of the investigation, a 41-year-old Dawson man was charged with assault and uttering threats.
He was released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in court Nov. 15.
