Public school board fined

Press Release

As a result of a decision in the Ontario Court of Justice last Thursday (Jan. 8), the Rainy River District School Board accepts responsibility for failing to immediately report a faulty drinking water monitor at Sturgeon Creek School to the Ministry of Environment in October, 2007.
Although there was no indication of any untreated water actually being supplied to the school, the failure to immediately report the faulty monitor resulted in a $10,000 fine to the board.
The board continues to maintain safe water conditions with high standards through frequent testing in all schools.
There were no reported illnesses as a result of the incident during the fall of 2007.
Water tests during this time period showed no abnormal results.
