Press Release
The Rainy River District Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario educational support personnel and the Rainy River District School Board jointly have ratified a proposed four-year agreement, which is in effect from Sept. 1, 2008 to Aug. 31, 2012.
An earlier agreement was met through the Provincial Discussion Table (PDT) with the Elementary Teachers’ Federation of Ontario educational support personnel, the Ontario Public School Boards’ Association, and the Ministry of Education.
This agreement met the Dec. 5 deadline established by the Ministry of Education and allows the board to offer the salary and enhancements outlined in the four-year agreement.
The Rainy River District School Board approved this contract at a special board meeting Dec. 5 while the support personnel membership ratified the agreement in a vote held Dec. 9.
The four-year contract is within government guidelines for support staff and affects 109 local members that include education assistants, medical education assistants, communication assistants, library assistants, and library technicians for all board schools, including Mine Centre.
The contract recognizes the PTD salary increase of three percent as of Sept. 1, 2008; three percent as of Sept. 1, 2009; three percent as of Sept. 1, 2010; and three percent as of Sept. 1, 2011.
Other local improvements include staffing funding enhancements, and the establishment of a joint benefits committee and a joint professional development committee.
The agreement was forwarded to the Ministry of Education and Training on Dec. 10 for review and final approval.
