Dreaming big has launched a former Fort Frances resident into another recording of her musical talent–this time in the form of an eight-song CD called “Shine On.”
Sandra Allan, 32, wrote and co-produced the CD–a collection of pop, rock, and gospel music–out of “Barn Studios” in Thunder Bay, where she now lives and works as an addictions counsellor.
This is her third recording since the age of 19, and probably the most significant of her career because of what she hopes will be accomplished when people buy the new CD.
“I have created a program called Teens Against Drugs and Alcohol, and everything made from this CD will go into musical awareness presentations on [drugs and alcohol],” Allan noted earlier this week while in town to promote the album.
Starting next spring, Allan and her five-piece band plan to take her T.A.D.A.A. message to teenagers at high schools, First Nations, and community events.
She hopes the uplifting lyrics of both the CD and the musical presentations will help bring her cause to the forefront in the minds of teens and their peers.
“Teenagers listen to a lot of negative music so I tried to develop a contemporary sound with positive lyrics,” Allan explained.
“I also think there is a lack of information of where [teens] can go for help and I’m hoping to offer [options] of what is available in their communities.
“I’d love to spread [T.A.D.A.A] all over the place,” she enthused.
The Ontario Métis Nation Training Initiatives program helped fund the production of Allan’s CD, which is available here at Sight and Sound, the United Native Friendship Centre, and the Sunset Country Métis office.
